Student Academy of Forensic Sciences

The purpose of Student Academy of Forensic Science (SAFS) is to afford an opportunity for the students in the Forensic Sciences to become better acquainted, secure the intellectual stimulation that results from professional association, gain knowledge of the field through contact with professionals in the community, foster a professional spirit among the members, and instill a professional pride in the forensic sciences.

SAFS is an award winning, student run club at the University of Central Oklahoma.  The club invites speakers from different forensic work settings to speak to its members on a monthly basis during Fall and Spring semesters, sponsors an annual float trip on the Illinois River, has Friday night at the movies social gatherings, does a mock crime scene weekend, and participates in several community service projects.  The service projects have included working with Girl Scouts troops each Fall to help them earn a Forensic Science patch, a child ID fingerprinting project, food drives, and assisting with visiting school groups.

The club faculty sponsors are Drs. Bost and von Minden.  The club officers are composed of both undergraduate and graduate students.  The club rewards members who actively participate by paying a portion of their expenses related to attending the American Academy of Forensic Sciences annual meeting.
