Master of Science in

Forensic Sciences

Criminalistics

Program Description   The Criminalistics option is geared toward students who have an undergraduate degree in areas such as chemistry or biology, although other degrees are accepted upon fulfillment of the prerequisite classes.  Students will become versed in the methodology of testing for biological fluids, DNA isolation and analyses, toxicology, and trace evidence examination.  Students must complete a minimum of 34 hours of graduate level work, including a core of 10 hours and a minimum of 24 hours in their major area.

Graduate Catalog   The Graduate Catalog provides several pages of introduction to UCO and includes information about on-campus housing, financial aid, tuition, and other services at the University.  It is also the best source of information on Graduate College policies and procedures.  Questions about admission, grading policies, degree requirements, and so forth can often be answered by reviewing the Graduate Catalog.

Click here to view the 2008-09 Graduate Catalog Introduction and Information for general information about the University of Central Oklahoma Graduate College.

Undergraduate Prerequisites   The University of Central Oklahoma believes that a person having a firm foundation in the fundamental science behind the methods used in the lab will have the best understanding, and therefore the best opportunity, to excel in their chosen area of forensic evidence examination.  Forensic science is a highly interdisciplinary field and for that reason we ask the Criminalists to be well educated in both biology and chemistry.

Prerequisite Courses for the Criminalistics option are:

CJ   3643 Administration of Justice
BIO 1204 General Biology
