The graduate and undergraduate Forensic Science academic programs are offered through the Chemistry Department which is located on the third floor of this building.
The Lab Annex is joined to Howell Hall and is home to laboratories for the Chemistry, Biology, and Physics Departments. The Chemistry Department labs are on the top floor.
The Atrium is a space between Howell Hall and the Lab Annex where students can relax, have group study sessions, or enjoy a snack from the vending machines.
This instrument was purchased in June 2005 and is used for accurate DNA quantitation in the forensics laboratory. Students will learn how to set up these assays and use the quantitation software. This instrument has additional capabilities such as gene expression analysis.
This instrument is routinely used by students to develop their own DNA profile and to generate DNA profiles from mock evidence.
The ABI 310 is running the latest version of ABI human identity analysis software, GeneMapper ID v3.2. Students will learn to use this software to analyze their samples.
This unit is used to amplify DNA for forensic analysis by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Students will become familiar with how to set up these reactions and program the thermocycler.
The forensics labs are equipped with several centrifuges of various types.
Puchased in December 2005, this instrument is used to analyze samples in the forensic chemistry laboratory.
The instrument is computer controlled and has a dedicated printer for the analytical results.
This unit was purchased in December 2005 and is used to analyze blood alcohol, drugs, and arson samples.
Purchased in December 2005, this instrument will be used by students to analyze mock arson samples and perform drug analysis in Toxicology and Physical Aspects Lab.
